Fox Glacier

Today we hiked to the terminus of Fox glacier at the foot of the highest peak in NZ, Mt. Cook (12,000+ ft). The glacier is 8 miles long, running from the base of Mt. Cook down to almost sea level in the rain forest by the Tasman Sea.

Marlborough wine region

Outside of Cloudy Bay "cellar door" here, vineyards are surrounded by mountains on all sides. Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noirs are the region's specialty. Blenheim is the town at the heart of wine tasting in the Marlborough region...and that's where we stayed.

RV'n

"Big Benny", as we have affectionately named our campervan, is one sweet ride! Fully self contained, with kitchen, bathroom, shower, bedroom, outdoor grill, partially powered by solar panel on top... Home away from home!

En route to wine region

It seems each town is more picturesque than the last...we're on our way to the Marlborough wine region.

Holy Sheep!

Imagine going 100 km/hr around a corner into this... Baaaaa! There are 10 times as many sheep in NZ than people.

New Zealand Rocks

Revealed at low tide in Abel Tasman National Park today. We agree!

Beautiful Kaikoura

We arrived in Kaikoura on Tuesday evening after a beautiful drive through the mountains. Kaikoura is a medium sized town on the East coast of New Zealand. The town was originally founded as a whaling town but now makes its money by providing whale watching by boat, helicopter, and planes.

The town follows the stoney horseshoe shaped beach on the East side and is tucked up against an amazing snowcapped mountain range just to the North and West. The combination makes for some increadible views!
Here's a photo of us from the beach in Kaikoura. Oh yeah, it is early spring...chilly but sunny!
